Black moonstone is named for its dark base color, which is usually black, dark brown, or dark gray. What makes this stone truly special is the brilliant optical phenomenon known as "adularescence." This effect creates a silvery or blue sheen that appears to move and change when the stone is turned or moved. Black moonstone gets its characteristic sheen and color from small inclusions of minerals such as hematite or ilmenite.

Approx. +/- 18g, 24x20x18mm.

Origin: Madagascar.
