Tanzanite is a rare and valuable mineral belonging to the zoisite group. It is known for its striking blue-violet to violet-blue color. Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in the Merelani Hills of Northern Tanzania. It is the only significant source of tanzanite, making it one of the few stones that originates from only one geographic location.
