Rainbow obsidian is a special variety of volcanic glass (obsidian). It is formed when lava cools rapidly and small inclusions in the glass create an iridescent effect. When polished, colorful concentric rings or waves appear, usually in green, purple, blue, or gold.

Rainbow obsidian is found mainly in Mexico and is known for its mysterious, almost holographic appearance.
