Epidote is a green mineral that belongs to the sorosilicate group. It is named after the Greek word "epidosis," which means "increase," due to the mineral's tendency to grow on other minerals. Epidote often occurs as prismatic or crystal-like formations and has a green to greenish color. This color is due to the presence of iron in the mineral.
